LICK!
Inkjet and Silkscreen Print. Three panels 17” x 38” each, 2025

A man and his dog. I set out to do a portrait of my friend and could not find a way that resonated with me. Until we did our umpteenth shoot and Gooner got affectionate. It’s a true portrait of Mike and Gooner. And the best way to illustrate the effect of having a portion of the sheet printed with an inkjet and the rest with silkscreen.

Grace

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print 44” x 34” 2024

Every so often, the grace of movement in daily life is art. (Left image is John Singer Sargents’ Study of a Spanish Dancer)

Hotdog Man

Four-Color Silkscreen in 9 panels
62” x 42”
2024

Dan is the Happy Dog hotdog man, famous everywhere and usually seen on River Street in Santa Cruz. He’s cool, interested in art, music, beer, creative mustards. If you’re around come sample one of his dogs.

Keith

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print
60” x 32”
2024

Thought I’d try a three level approach with the background all silkscreen, Keith printed at 30% transparent on an Epson, and the foreground all Epson.

An indulgence. This self-portrait created to reflect a multilevel, sometimes messy personality.

Form or Substance?

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print
44” x 44”
2023

Here’s an environment that lends itself very well to the contrast seen between inkjet and silkscreen printing. A harsh and cold decor for a swanky restaurant mellows a bit thanks to the beautiful humans that work to serve.

If we treat our environment in a disgusting way, why do we think we can get the people in power to make the changes we so critically need?

Selfie by Alain DeBorger with his 1939 Leica camera. This is a study of black and white photography silkscreened using four-color separations.

Hula Oops!

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print

44” x 39”

A tribute to Cesar, master bartender, and to the joy of sharing drinks with friends. This is an unusual blend of inkjet (left side fades to white) and silkscreen which gradually fades from left to white.

Primary Man

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print

38” x 31”

2022

Jared has a strong and very rich personality. Not pastel colors there. This silkscreened portrait, with the primary color squares inkjet, displays a bright, luminous place with a man that fits there well.

Les Mûres

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print

38” x 24”

I took this picture a very long time ago with a Nikon and some Kodachrome. Converting the slide to a digital version gave the inkjet part of the image an interesting grain that plays well with the screen dot of the silkscreened portion.

Hommage a Mohamed Mbougar Saar

Inkjet and Silkscreen Print

Nine panels of 17” x 22”

2022

Buried inside somewhere in Mohamed MBougar Saar’s wonderful novel, La Plus Secrete Memoire des Hommes, lies the wonderful sentence that you see on the piece. This 9-panel silkscreen/inkjet print is an illustration of the not yet formed day referenced in the sentence. I gave this abstract thought a concrete setting like the early commute by subway, unformed and as yet undefined. I wanted errors in the separations, uncontrollable outcomes, disjointed panels because that’s what the beginning of a day often is for those who have to be up and out and ready to work.Translated: “In the day’s waiting room, the first sounds were becoming impatient.”
